Wii Media center
The Nintendo Wii is a great gaming console which has reinvented the game console with its intuitive user interface and a great set of games ( am talking about the virtual console games here). The one thing that the Wii lacks is the ability to play streaming video and music, there is still no way to play movies stored on your hard-drive or music that you have on PC. while you can view videos on YouTube and other sites using the Internet channel ( the opera web browser ) . The Wii still lacks a hard drive but does support SD cards thus ruling out any chance of you hording a lot of movies or music on the console.
The Wii Media center X software from Red Kawa compensates for this somewhat by enabling you to run a web server on your home pc. the web server provides an interface that provides access to the Music and movies on your Home PC through WiFi or wired network. The software enables you to share only certain portions of your hard drive thus maintaining security. The user community had developed a large set of skins which can be easily downloaded and installed. The documentation is still very sketchy this application has a lot of potential and can be improved a lot.
